Criminals have made foreign-owned Spaza shops their easy cash collecting point in areas like Swaneville, Tshepisong, extension 12 and other neighbouring areas around Kagiso.

Kagiso SAPS spokesman, Solomon Sibiya said the suspects usually threaten their victims with firearms, knives and easily take cash and groceries with no resistance from victims as they fear for their lives.

Sibiya said on Friday, the 29th of March, at about 08:50 pm the complainant alleged that he was outside his shop on Heron street at Swaneville when suddenly three (3) suspects appeared.

“Two of them who were armed with firearms took undisclosed cash, airtime vouchers, cartons of cigarettes and the complainant’s Nokia cell phone at gunpoint,” said Sibiya.

Sibiya said the third suspect further went into the shop but was apprehended by the staff and later handed over to the police.

“His two accomplices managed to flee the scene in a white getaway vehicle. We are appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the successful arrest of the suspects to call Kagiso Police on 011 696 9000/9067 or Crime Stop line on 08600 10111,” he said.
