Late freedom fighter Solomon Mahlangu understood that his fight against apartheid was for the total liberation of South Africans.

That is according to Umkhonto We Sizwe veteran Johny Mohlala.

“He knew that his hanging will symbolise a particular era in the liberation struggle of the people of South Africa,” Mohlala said.

Mahlangu was sent to the gallows 40-years ago.

He was one of 134 political prisoners convicted and sentenced to death at the Pretoria Central Prison.

To mark four-decades since the incident, the government has revealed plans to use his family home as an institution of teaching about the country’s history.
