President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on premiers and mayors to make municipalities the centres of economic growth – by co-operating with the rest of the government.
Ramaphosa was addressing a District Development Model report-back meeting, at the presidential guesthouse in Pretoria.
The initiative is managed by the President’s Coordinating Council and it is meant to improve service delivery and integrate the three spheres of government.
“Through the Municipal Recovery Programme we aim to rein in profligate spending through better financial management and administration, and provide targeted support in provinces where municipalities are struggling,” said Ramaphosa.
